Few days ago, Mohammed Albanna had a bike accident. Today, I went to see him, hearing that he have become better. I heard good news from his mom saying that all surgical operations were done, no more required, and he is recovering. I went inside to see him in the ICU, and when I saw him, I had this indescribable feeling. I can’t see my friend hurt. Old memories flashed before my eyes.
We hold a very old friendship, goes back to 1994. Though, our families are related, we first met in Bahrain Science Center.
We studied there, had fun, and enjoyed time. Yes, I still remember those memories last they were yesterday. I remember when we were learning Visual Basic, and you designed the Game Interface for me using Bordered Frames. We were kids back then! I still remember when we used to sit in the Computer room formatting Ali’s Computer.. I wish you Remember?! It was Compaq, looked like Apple Machines back then.
And years later we got busy with our lives, and then we meet again in Bahrain World Trade Center. I still remember our chats, I still remember when you said that you wanted to get a BMW 335 Coupe. I still remember when you bought one.
Now I miss seeing your car in the car park, I miss seeing you in the elevator in the morning. You go to floor 14 and I go to 15.
I pray for you my friend, and hope that when you get better, you read this blog post and remember our child hood.
In my MBA class, we are taking a course about leadership. I always thought that leaders are born with this talent. I still do, however, the professor and the article says otherwise, leadership can be taught to people. I can’t really figure this out, leadership is about coping with changes, motivating people and being able to guide and go over obstacles. Even if I agree that it can be taught from experience, yet, talent is different. Management can be taught, its about planing and it comes with experience.
The outcome of todays class is:
- There are some characteristics that identify a leader.
- Leadership can be taught, yet, I believe its a talent.
- Leadership is not management, leadership is inspiration and motivation, people follow leaders.
- Leaders have their ups and downs, there is a gray area, and it depends on how you see it.
It was a great discussion.
This question popped up to my mind and it is inspired by the previous post (What is Love?).
Beauty is an interpretation of some kind of love or let me say liking. When we see something we like, we say its beautiful. Defining the word “like” will take another post, so I will stick with the word “beauty”.
When we see a person who is beautiful, it means that we either love this person, so we like everything about this person, then he/she becomes the most beautiful person in the world. Or we like something about this him/her, so it could be the shape of his/her face, the color of the eyes, or his/her hair cut/style. People sometimes look beautiful for the way they dress and depending on your mood.
If you notice, sometimes you see a beautiful person, and another day, they are just like the rest, the beauty is just gone. It could be that she/he was wearing something you like.
This word has a very complex meaning, I tried to express it in my own simple words.

What is love? It is a question that have been asked by Hussain Nasser (@hnasr). So, here is my answer. Keeping in mind that everything I write here is my own opinion, some people may agree and some don’t.. So please don’t flood me with comments saying that I wrote the wrong thing or I have a weirdo opinion.
Love can be applied to everything, you can love a person, or a computer or even a pet. But I will define love based on loving people.
When I chat with my friends, we joke and we say that love is a band-pass-filter. What it means is that when we love, we only see what we like. Love is like glasses with filters, that makes us not only see what we like, it may even makes us like things we didn’t like.
Love is the butterfly effect when you see the person you love. Love is when you feel alone without this person around you, even though everyone else is around.
In love, beauty doesn’t count. It doesn’t matter if the person you love is beautiful/handsome or not, because love makes everything beautiful.
Love is when you want to spend the rest of your life with this person with no regrets! Love is happiness. Love is the most beautiful thing in this life. Love is what makes us. We can’t live without love…
Sometimes people mix love with sex, this is not true! Sex has nothing to do with love. Sex is a physical thing while love is a feeling. Attraction is not love. Liking an attitude is not love.

Once again, I post a very quick update… I seem to be busier than I expected.
- I have been really active on twitter, you can follow my daily life through twitter if you would like to.
- On April 25th I received the iPad. (Posted on Twitter)
- I found the template I am looking for.
- Testing Yii Framework as a replacement for CodeIgniter and Kohana…
Being a father is not easy.. Hmm, while I am typing I remembered that I never posted that I have become a father. I am a father of a beautiful daughter named Sara.
It has been really a long time since I last wrote something on my blog, but here is a quick update..
- I have been really active on twitter, you can follow my daily life through twitter if you would like to.
- I have purchased Apple iPad, and I am hoping for it to arrive sometime next week.
- I have upgraded my MacBook from Mac OSX Leopard to Snow Leopard.. Significant performance difference, and a better battery life.
- VIVA service is getting better, and I am getting less disconnected calls.
- Searching for a web app template that have a generic use, still can’t find a useful one.
I have been extremely busy with my life the past few weeks. I think that I try to do tons of stuff at the sametime, but I end up finishing the important stuff only.
Since Viva BH doesn’t provide manual settings… I decided to extract their manual settings from the automatic settings and post them here…

I am one of the people who gets really annoyed when I don’t get what I have been promised with. I have people who don’t keep their promises. So, I walk to Viva Shop in Jawad Dome. I stay in the Queue, and the shop says sorry we are closed. After waiting for 1 hour, they said they closed. Of-course after people showing their annoyance, they said they’ll process who ever was there.. and they wont accept new customers. So, I wait for another hour. And I get my SIM Card, but not activated card. I get promised to have the card active by the same night, or maximum by next morning (Which is today). However, today at about 3.00pm, I try to use the card. and the Card is not active, so I call 124.. I make a big deal of it and the team leader Hussain Alfardan, does his magic… and gets my card activated 4 hours later… Anyway, I call this magic… It rarely works with telecoms companies. However, the card is active, so I try it on my iPhone. I get the regular message from any provider saying that the handset cannot be configured automatically and I have to contact 124. However, I call them, and they say:
Sorry Sir, we don’t have manual settings.
I tell him to escalate my issue, and he forwards me to his manager, and the manager says:
Sorry Sir, we don’t have manual settings and there is nothing I can do to help you!!!
Wow, what a customer service guy, if he worked for me, he would have been fired instantly. They don’t provide manual settings and they tell me they cannot do anything for me… I am paying for a service and I cannot use this service.
Also, I call again asking about why I am being charged BHD1.429 on the unbilled for my number. He they say we cannot help you sir.. We have to call you back after couple of hours. What type of service is this? They are running a joke company!

Few days ago, I purchased my White iPhone 3GS 32GB. My History with iPhone is long back when I the 2G. I love the changes in the in the iPhone… Specially the feature that I missed much, Copy-n-Paste Text!!! and the New Push notifications!!
I replaced my BlackBerry with this iPhone. It has been doing it’s job perfectly.
Today was a rainy day. Which we are not used to. So we’d expect accidents. Here is an example taken by my N900
On Saturday, I got my Nokia N900… Simply this phone rocks! I love this phone!

On Saturday, 21st of November 2009 was my birthday. It was a very special day for me. Thanks to everyone to made me enjoy my day, and specially my wife. She took me to have dinner in Pizza Italia and prepared a very nice table for me. I love the Aigner package! Thanks for the special dinner honey!
I just installed the plug-in Add to Any on my blog. It allows visitors to be able to share my posts using it rather than copying and pasting the links!
Once upon a time, there was the most beautiful part of my life, when:
When my Dad was the only hero,
When Love was my Mom’s hug,
When my Dad’s shoulder was the highest place on earth,
When my worst enemies were my siblings and cousins,
When the only thing that could hurt was a skinned knee,
When the only things broken were my toys,
And when goodbyes only meant till tomorrow.
Yesterday was one of the best days in my life… Many good things happened yesterday!
I am just back to Bahrain!! Home sweet home!!
Well, I am leaving to Cyprus Turkey for one week!! Leaving tomorrow morning night.. I am so excited!
Hmm, Its has been a really long time since I have last blogged, I just have been really busy with tons of other stuff. I am currently developing a system using Kohana PHP Framework. I really love using Kohana, it makes things easier, its more flexible than CodeIgniter.
A friend of Mine sent me a link to an online quiz “Which programming language are you?” So here is my result:

The quiz is accessible via this link: http://www.bbspot.com/News/2006/08/language_quiz.php
I had two nick names that I always loved to be called with, I didn’t invent them but they just got attached to me and I loved them. I remember the first day I was called Compiler… I was in the Computer Science Lab, Building 15, University of Bahrain — Location Isa Town.
We were doing the computer science 102 (C++ Programming) assignment. I completed mine faster than everyone. So I started helping others… Many of my colleagues didn’t have good knowledge or let’s say interest in programming, so they had lots of structural and logical mistakes… So, one of my colleagues had an error when compiling the C++ Code. So, I took a look at the code and I found the error and fixed it.. And I heard people around me saying: Aah, Compiler!! Since that day, many people know me as Ali Compiler!
The other name Ahmed Alghawas (Friend of mine) called me it and I loved it… I think I will start using it too.. He had an issue with a Linux server, and he have been told that I am a Linux Expert, so he spoke to me and I helped.. He called me Ali the savior.. And we became friends since that day!
I was telling Jassim BuHayal about the new nickname since he only knew Compiler since UOB Days… And he said, its nice.. Use it as:
The Savior, Ali The Savior… Just like, Bond, James Bond!
