Switched the Internet from Menatelecom to VIVA

I have been using Menatelecom for over a year now, it was good, however, I never had success with VOIP with them… I didn’t want to go back to Batelco, it used to disconnect all time, due to the SWITCH being too far and having a very bad ADSL service. I tested VIVA for few months now.. It is simply great!! Even VOIP is perfect! So today, I made the switch, and I am totally connected to the internet via VIVA.. I get about 3Mbits in my house due to low coverage.. Browsing speed is awesome! I connected it via a 3G router, and now my whole house is connected via VIVA. Everybody is happy now! Tomorrow I will pass by Menatelecom and disconnect the line.

Hello, I read your Viva article this sounds great, i am with lightspeed with btw is far off from its name lightspeed if anything its turtle speed internet. I get max 30kbs dnld speed if lucky.

How much do you pay monthly for viva and what is your download speed like?

I get about 400KB/s… Thats due to low coverage… When I take my router with me to the coffee shop where all my testing happen, I get about 600 to 700KB/s download rate. Its fair for the amount I pay.. I pay BD30/- with Unlimited Amount of Data… That is complying to fair usage policy which is 60GB per month… If you exceed, they down grade your link… 60GB is virtually unlimited.

Hi Ali, I am planning to move to Viva from Batelco after 5 years being a customer with them. The reason of moving to Viva is simply because of the Limit & Speed and what encouraged too is the monthly fees, I already pay BD30 to Batelco.
I have few questions and hope get the answers. How much do you think the stability of Viva? I never had major problems with Batelco. Which router do you use? I found DOVADO 3GN in Sharaf DG, do you have any experience about it? Waiting your reply ASAP. Thank you.

Viva has been very stable for me… I didn’t face any major issues, I could tell you that the speed downgraded on average… It was averaging on 5Mbits in locations with full signal, now it averages at 3Mbits… However, I didn’t regret the move. As for the router I use, I use EnGenius ESR6650. Very stable router with plenty of features..

Thank you for your feedback, then how they claim that the speed is 21.1 Mbps?
BTW where can I find EnGenius ESR6650?

  • By Ali, December 27, 2010 @ 4:42 pm

Well, they don’t claim, the ad says up to! and 21Mbits is the maximum antenna bandwidth, if you are the only one using the antenna and its direct… Then you may get it.. However, its an advertising thing… You can get it from Expresison Computers in Alawi Center in Sanad.

    Update…
I have subscribed to Viva Unlimited Broadband on 1/1/2011 and bought Buffalo Air-Station Nfeniti HighPower WZR-HP-G300NH from Sharaf DG. In the store there are two 3G USB routers available one is the Buffalo (BD 40.00) and the other one is Dovado 3GN (55.00). When you ask for the router they immediately ask you “is it for viva?” and they recommend you the Dovado, why? They say it’s easier to configure and setup while the Buffalo is a bit tricky. IMO, the Buffalo is richer and looks stronger and very stylish. They insisted that no body could configure the Buffalo in Sharaf DG. I told them I will take it and do my best to make it work. You won’t believe how easy and straight forward was the setup, just switch on the router, let it boot for a while, plug the USB modem, insert the included CD and autoplay starts, from the right menu you choose the second option and go through the process and it’s done. I promised them that I will visit them again and teach them how to configure the router so they can configure for the customers. The wireless range is great on this router and yet many features are to be discovered. Regards

ok……i tried mykey from mena for few months…..ill admit the speed fluctuates but it fluctuates between 5 Mbits to 1.4 Mbits which is really impressive….and a few times it reached 1.7 Mbits……..now i got the new viva router and the speed barely reaches 5.5 Mbits…..so in my opinion mena is better nd has better coverage……now im planning to try mywifi portable router from mena nd see how it goes
